LISTENING TO PULPS

  • On 6 May | '2016

Greeting Loyal Airmen, well the weather here in Fort Collins has finally turned around for the better.  Nice to see the sun again after almost a week of clouds and rains.  Okay, this week we are packing up tons of goodies to take with us to Gryphon Games & Comics here in town for the Annual Free Comic Book Day. The folks at this shop do it up big and we always have a great time.  Last year they had over 1,500 people walk through the store.  Here’s hoping tomorrow is even a bigger success.  We hope all our Loyal Airmen will take a break from their busy day to visit and support their own local comic shops.

Now as all of you know, the good folks at Radio Archives have been adapting our Airship 27 pulp novels and anthologies to audio.  A few days ago they released the third in our Sinbad – The New Voyages.  This one is a full length novel by C.B. Harvey and once again the super talented voice actor Jem Matzan does the reading. With each new book Matzan imbues the characters with so much life, listening to his audibooks is a treat.  Oh, and he also writes a regular blog on how he goes about creating some of the marvelous voices and sound effects in his recording.  You can go to it here.  (http://www.jemmatzan.com/2016/05/sinbad-the-new-voyages-volume-3-the-warriors-of-forever.html)  It is truly fascinating and shows how diverse creative people truly are.

And it is also fitting that this past week we released our 5th Volume in the SINBAD – The New Voyages series. This one features stories by Barbara Doran, Lee Houston Jr., Percival Constantine and even one by Ye Old Air Chief himself. That’s right, after creating these great characters, we thought it was high time we got to write their adventures as well.  And it was a blast.  Terry Pavlet provides the above stunning cover with Michael Dean Jackson doing the interior illustrations. It is a great package now available at Amazon in both hard copy and on Kindle.  We hope you’ll check it out.

Okay, now to give you all a sneak-peek at one of the most exciting projects we’ve ever worked on here at Airship 27 Productions; THE TOWERS OF METROPOLIS. Inspired by the classic sci-fi silent film by Fritz Lang, “Metropolis,” our anthology is a prequel and the stories in this book all precede the events which take place in the movie.  The amazing Pedro Cruz, another lover of the film, is now turning in the interior illustrations and the cover is by the great Michael Kaluta.  This is a dream project for the Air Chief and one we think all of you are going to love.  More as we go into production.  Oh, and for those of you sadly unfamiliar with the film the screen shot above is from the movie.

And there you have it for this week, Loyal Airmen. Again, thanks for stopping by and we’ll see you back here next Friday.
