Rob&Ron

Greetings Loyal Airmen, as you read this week’s Flight Log, the Air Chief and Chief Engineer Rob Davis are at the 2016 Windy City Pulp & Paper Convention in beautiful Lombard, Illinois, just outside of Chicago.  Every year this show is a blast and we get to see old friends and make tons of new ones.  On Friday night the Air Chief will once again be hosting the Pulp Factory Awards presentations. Rest assured we’ll post the list of winners here next week.  And then on New Pulp Sunday we have all those great panels we mentioned here last week.  As you can see this is a busy, fun time us and hundreds of pulp fans.  Please, if you are anywhere near the area, come on down and join in.

And while on the subject of awards, the 2016 Pulp Ark Awards were announced last night and I’m thrilled to say two Airship 27 titles were winners.  Our giant benefit anthology for Tommy Hancock, “Legends of New Pulp Fiction” won in the Best Anthology/Collection category and Best Pulp Novel went to Micah Harris’ awesome “Ravenwood Stepson of Mystery” novel, “Return of the Dugpa. Micah is a terrific writer and we couldn’t be any happier for him.  And to ALL the people who made that incredible anthology such a huge success, we tip our pulp fedora.

As you Loyal Airmen will remember, last week we talked about some of the “jungle” movies that would soon be at your local cinemas.  Well yesterday Val and the Air Chief went to see Disney new live action “Jungle Book” and we absolutely loved it.  Director John Favreau may have just given all of us his masterpiece.  Not afraid to use today’s technology to enhance his narrative, he gives a wonderful story so amazing and beautiful, both a feast for the eyes and the heart.  The voice actors are magnificent in their respective roles and the young boy playing Mowgli, is simply brilliant. We recommend this movie highly, though parents should see it first before little ones under six. It has a few tense scenes that might prove a bit too scary for kids

Okay, time for the Air Chief to get finished packing.  Hope to see you in Chicago. Come back next week for a full report on the con.  And thanks ever for stopping by.
