A WET SPRING

  • On 3 Jun | '2016

Greeting Loyal Airmen, if any of you live in an area considered a “drought zone” then you’ll know how much we here in Colorado do appreciate what rain we do get. But honestly this seems to have been one of the wettest Springs we’ve had in years and it is quite frankly getting frustration.  What with Memorial Day festivities last weekend getting cancelled or simply rained on.  Seems we’re locked into a weather pattern that gives us bright, sunny mornings and then by midday, the clouds move and so does the rain.  Ye Old Chief if often reminded of the monsoon seasons back in Vietnam. Here’s hoping we eventually do get a stretch of normal, warm weather…without the wet stuff.  Please.

Hot air

Hot air balloons are a common site in our area but last Sunday morning we had one float over our home so low our neighbors were outside waving up at the fliers. Valerie grabbed her cellphone and snapped the picture above. What a truly beautiful sight.

Final-Munsey-Award

Every year the good people of the Pulpfest convention give out the Munsey Award; named after one of the first editors of pulp magazines back in the 30s. It is a framed copy of the image above showing a ghostly Shadow coming out of a fiery typewriter. The award is given to that individual who has contributed to advancement pulp fandom in extraordinary efforts.  There are usually ten nominees and only past winners are allowed to vote each year.  We mention all this as the Air Chief is one of those ten nominees this year.  It is our third such and we are extremely grateful to those pulp fans who were kind enough to nominate us.  Win or lose, this is truly a singular honor and we thank the Pulpfest organizing committee for the great job they do.  As ever, Airship 27 Productions will be in attendance when the show rolls around at the end of July.  More on that as it approaches.

GUNSBB1 CoverA REVISED

Meanwhile it’s time to update you Loyal Airmen on the two pulp comic series the Air Chief has been writing for Moonstone Comics.  Guns of the Black Bat # 1 should have been out last week, sadly there was a bit of a snafu in production and the wrong creator credits ended up on the cover. Above is the corrected cover and we’re told it went off to the printer this past week. All fingers crossed we’ll be seeing it in comic shops soon.  We’ll keep you posted for sure.

The second comic is a four issue mini-series called Black Bat – Domino Lady : Danger Coast to Coast and it is coming along rather well.  The Air Chief wrote the actual scripts a while back and they were all assigned to some pretty amazing artist. Issues 1 & 2 are being done by Michael Dorman, issue # 3 is in the hands of Mark Grammel and the last chapter (that’s a page from it above) # 4 is being done by the fantastic Vincezo Sasone.  We can’t exactly say when this particular series will be out, but we can tell you Loyal Airmen, it will be worth the wait.  We’ve had a blast writing these.

theo-james

Finally it was officially announced this past week that British actor Theo James will be the new James Bond.  His first go at 2007 will be out in 2017.  He’s best known for his supporting role in the sci-fi Divergent movies. Could be a good choice. Time will tell.

And that’s it for this week Loyal Airmen, as ever, thanks for stopping by.
