Greetings Loyal Airmen, this week we’re going to cover a wide range of topics. One of the things the Air Chief loves to do is see different artists take on one character. Some of you may be familiar with the female space smuggler character we created a while back called Captain Jain Marlee.

Above to the left is Captain Jain as drawn by Luis Rivera from the 6 pg story, “A Cold Demise” which is currently appearing in several comics from small independent outfits.  Eventually we hope to have the story in a future each of “Ron Fortier’s Tales of the Macabre.”  Over the weekend we wrote a brand new 11 pg Captain Jain story called “Ghost World” and it will be drawn by an artist named Aaron Mallard. The black and white drawing above to the right his Aaron’s take on our lovely hero.

Now working with Aaron on this story is his partner, designer/letterer Mike Adkins.  Upon seeing the black and white illustration, Mike added some coloring and then whipped up a truly amazing logo making it look like a magazine cover.  When the Air Chief saw this, he was delighted and told Mike how much we loved that logo design. So what does Mike then go and do, he creates this tee-shirt mock-up with that same design.  We think its really, really cool.  Who knows, maybe some day when we collect all the Captain Jain Marlee stories in one collection, we may give this tee-shirt thing a go. What do all you Loyal Airmen thing?  Yea or nea?

And now for more updates on the Brother Bones Movie now in pre-production. Over the past week, the Air Chief, working with producers Erik Franklin and Daniel Husser hammered out a story outline for the actual film.  It went back and forth between and the Air Chief, working off my original stories.  And we have to tell you, these two young fellows are fantastic storytellers.  In the middle of merging two stories, we were left with continuity gaps etc. and both Erik and Daniel were quick to offer up suggestions on what kind of new scenes were required to make the story flow properly.  Honestly, what we ended up with by the third revision is simply wonderful and now Erik is writing the shooting screenplay from this outline.  So while he and Daniel were doing their writing thing, the Air Chief got together with Airship 27 Art Director Rob Davis and we decided to do a promotional poster to help drum up interest in the project.  The Air Chief spent a few hours on-line looking at old classic movie posters for inspiration and finally found one for a movie called “The Undead.” What could be more ironic in that we’re doing a movie about an “Undead Avenger.” And the second we saw that imagery we knew it was the ideal starting point for Rob to work his magic.  Next to it you can now see the results, the promotional poster for “Brother Bones – The Undead Avenger.”  Note, we are going to have a bunch of these made up as prints to both sell at upcoming conventions and, yes, on-line at our Airship 27 website. Stay tuned, Rob is now looking into print outfits to set them up and hopefully by next week the Air Chief will have the specifics for any of you Loyal Airmen who would like to have this poster up on your walls.

At the same we’ve got all this attention on the movie, we do not want to forget Scaldcrow Games’ role playing module, “Ron Fortier’s Cape Noire” still in production. Their head honcho, T Glenn Bane just turned in this great illustration of Waldo, the brutish assistant/bodyguard of Cape Noire’s mad scientist, Prof. Bugosi. He first appeared in the Roman Leary novel, “Six Days of the Dragon,” and both he and the mad Bugosi will be featured in the movie.  Oh yeah, things are really heating up on the Brother Bones front.

And finally, we received a call from the events planner at the local Barnes & Noble that they had put up a poster announcing the Air Chief’s July 6th appearance. So we took a ride down to the store to check it out. Looking forward to this night.  We’ll be talking informally on the history of American Pulps, the birth of New Pulp and then signing copies of several of titles.  Hopefully some friends will stop by and we’ll have a decent turn out.
