Airship27

Greeting Loyal Airmen, we've certainly got a list cool things to share with you this week.  Upper most is the fact that this time next week the Air Chief and his pal, Rob Davis, will be in Columbus, Ohio, for the third annual Pulp Fest Convention. This is a great show that seems to get better every single year and we truly hope any of you Loyal Airmen living in the area will make it a point to drop by and say hi.  As always the Airship 27 table will be manned by us with all sorts of great pulp titles. Speaking of which, Airship 27 today announced the release of its 38th title.

This is the third and final installment of award winning writer Michael Vance's horrific trilogy all centering around the quite little fishing town of Light's End on the rocky coast of Maine.  Vance's work has often times been compared to the styling of the great H.P. Lovecraft and right so.  This new book sports a gorgeous cover by painter Keith Birdson and ten black and white interior illustrations by artist Eric York.  You can pick up a digital download copy at our Hangar 27 for only $3. Simply go to the links page and click on the appropriate button. Note, the Cornerstone Book Publishers editions will be out Aug.5th and available at Barnes & Noble, Amazon and other reputable book distributors. We hope you'll give it look.  And though we won't have hard copies at Pulp Fest, we will have download copies we can burn to disc should you be interested in picking one up.

Last week we mentioned we were very anxious to see the last Harry Potter movie, The Deathly Hallows Part Two. Well, we did so at a Monday morning showing and we were not disappointed.  This final chapter in this remarkable series was easily the best book to screen adaptation ever.  We're not saying the books are not better, they always will be, but this two part movie followed 90% of the actual book and the scenes were just as poignant and dramatic as we recalled reading them.  In the end, as the final scene faded to black, we were applauding and saying good-bye to Harry, Hermoine & Ron.  For over a decade they brought us along on this truly amazing journey, turning us mere muggles into magical beings. We've not doubt these books and their film versions will go on to entertain future generations of children (& their parents) for as long as people appreciate well told tales and this was clearly one of the best.  Thank you, J.K. Rowling.

JACK YAEGER BATTLES THE MERCURY MEN
Speaking of good old fashion yarns, on this coming Monday, 25th of July, the SyFy website will debut an on-line series done in the classic style of the old movie serials.  For each day, over a two week period, this site will post a short segment of a sci-fi black and white adventure thriller called THE MERCURY MEN.  Written by young producer, Chris Preksta, the show is a total homage to the 1940s matinee chapter plays.  The time is the 1950s and weird, white beings from the planet Mercury have launched a secret invasion of earth.  Now it is up to a bored, mild mannered clerk, Eward Borman and the master engineer adventure, Jack Yaeger to stop them.  Earlier today, the Air Chief had the fun of talking with creator Chris Preksta on the PULPED Podcast which he co-hosts along with Tommy Hancock, Barry Reese and Derrick Ferguson.  Chris was a great guest and his enthusiasm for this old brand of movie making resulted from his seeing the Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies as a child.  Curious about the serials he heard Lucas and Spielberg had been inspired by, Chris sought them out on VHS tapes and DVD discs and discovered a whole new world of action adventure.  Now he's made a brand new serial and all of us will get to repeat the fun.  So mark Monday on your calendar and do check out that first chapter.  It's going to be wild.

And there you have it for another week, Loyal Airmen.  Monday, Val and the Air Chief are finally going to catch the one movie we've been waiting for all summer, CAPTAIN AMERICA -The First Avenger.  Rest assured you'll be getting our review next Flight Log, which we will post early Thursday morning next week, again, as we head out to Columbus and Pulp Fest.  Hope to see lots of Loyal Airmen there.

AVIATION ADVENTURES

  • On 15 Jul | '2011

Greetings Loyal Airmen. Obviously by now you are all aware of what an aviation buff the Air Chief is. After all why would we call the place Airship 27 if we weren't nuts about all kinds of great flying machines. Last weekend the local Loveland/Fort Collins airfield had several World War II vintage planes on display and you can bet where the Air Chief and his family spent their Sunday afternoon.

                                    B-25 BOMBER WITCHCRAFT
One of the most famous planes built during that conflict was the workhorse B-25 Bomber which was responsible for bringing the war to the enemy and in the end it helped destroy their armament production facilities.  This proud old girl was the center piece of the show and visitors were allowed on to climb on board and check her out.

The Air Chief and grandson, Alex Horne manning the guns.
That invitation to climb aboard was all we needed and with grandson, Alex, we hurriedly got in line and then when our turn came, entered this amazing aircraft and inspected her tail to cockpit.  One of the first things one realizes when making such a visit is just how tightly cramped the interiors were.  You soon realize the average airmen on those crews were probably Alex' body size and weight. In other words, nowhere as big and tall as today's citizens.  This was such a treat for the both of us and allowed the Air Chief to spout a little history to Alex in the process.

The Air Chief and a P-51 Mustang Fighter
Of course whenever American bombers flew out on sorties, like these B-25s, they had to have fighter escorts to protect them against single engine enemy fighters like the German Messerschmidts.  One of the most popular such fighter planes was the P-51 Mustang and there was one at the show.  Walking around her, you could feel the power radiating from her fuselage and it was very easy for the Air Chief to imagine the many aerial dogfights she must have been in.  It was a pure joy and honor to have this photo taken in front of such an elegant lady of the clouds.

                                Art by Shannon Hall
Coincidentally a few days after attending the air show, we were thrilled to receive the above illustration by the truly gifted young artist, Shannon Hall.  It is a pencil rendering of what will become the painted cover to Airship 27 Productions third Lance Star -Sky Ranger volume coming out soon.  The book contains four brand new Lance Star adventures with twelve black and white interior illos by Shannon.  Art Director Rob Davis and the Air Chief were so delighted by his work on those, we offered him the cover assignment.  As this pencil sketch indicates, he's clearly rising to the challenge.  Stay turned, we'll soon be posting the final, completed painting.  It is going to be sweet.

Wizard Harry Potter and his pals Hermoine and Ron
Finally, this weekend sees the release of the final chapter in the cinematic adventures of boy wizard Harry Potter when HARRY POTTER & THE DEATHLY HALLOWS premiers in theaters across the country.  For over a decade, movie audiences around the world have thrilled to the saga of this orphaned boy growing into his destiny as he seeks to combat and destroy the fiendish black wizard who murdered his parents. Cast and crew have taken us on an incredible journey, brilliantly bringing to life writer J.K.Rowling's books; a series that proved once and for all that even today's gadget obsessed kids will read…if you give them quality stories. As much as the Air Chief and his family are eager to see this final movie, it will also be bitter sweet saying goodbye to Harry and the entire staff of regulars at Hogworths.  But then again, we still have the books to re-read time and again, and the DVDs to watch repeatedly.  So thanks Harry, it was a great trip.

That's it for this week, Loyal Airmen.  We hope you continue to enjoy the summer. With the All Star game behind us, the baseball season now rolls into its second half.  Our beloved Red Sox are still hanging in there and although we think they have a chance to make the play-offs, we'd still like to see better pitching.

TEEN WOLF FUN SUPRISE

  • On 8 Jul | '2011

Greetings Loyal Airmen.  One of actor Michael Fox's more popular (& weird) movies was something called Teen Wolf, a comedy in which he plays a  young high school student bitten by a werewolf who then turns into one himself. The movie was favorably looked upon when released for it comedic elements and went on to spawn a sequel and TV movie back in the early 90s.  Now MTV has gone a created a brand new Teen Wolf, this one a weekly TV series and they've made it much darker and scarier, while maintaining some of the original's dark humor. The end result is a really terrific new show.

Actor Tyler Posey as TEEN WOLF in new MTV weekly series.
The show has a tremendous cast of charismatic young actors lead by newcomer Tyler Posey as Scott McCall, the asthmatic lacrosse player who is bitten by a werewolf monster and suddenly begins to display strange, super natural powers. At the same time he's fallen in love with a newcomer at his Northern California High School, one Allison Argent, played by Crystal Reed. The show is actually filmed in the Atlanta area. And if that wasn't trouble enough, lo and behold, we soon discover Allison's dad is a member of a family that hunts werewolves.

So far the show has aired five of its thirteen episodes and Valerie and the Air Chief are hooked.  Many of the early episodes were written by veteran Australian writer/producer, Russell Mulcahy and his work on this show is some of his best ever. So if you one of those Loyal Airmen who still laments the passing of shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Moonlight, let us recommend you catch TEEN WOLF.  We think you'll enjoy it as much as we do.

This has certainly been a summer of genre blockbusters.  Thus far the Air Chief has really enjoyed both THOR and GREEN LANTERN, and been horribly disappointed in SUPER 8.  In a few weeks we hope to catch the last Harry Potter movie.  Having read all the novels, we know what's in story for this slam-bang action finale and are eager to see it.  Still the biggest target of anticipation on our movie list this summer is CAPTAIN AMERICA – THE FIRST AVENGER.  Cap is one the Air Chief's favorite comic book heroes and Joe Johnston one of our favorite director.  He did the classic ROCKETEER.  The film clips and trailers we have seen of this movie only have us counting the days till its release at the end of the month.  This movie is going to be so much. Many were the days when the Air Chief was just a kid growing up in a small New Hampshire town in the early 60s discovering Marvel comics and wondering why no one in Hollywood was making movies of these great characters.  Well, live long enough and even one's wildest dreams can come true.

That's it for another week, Loyal Airmen.  Next Friday will talk about the soon to be released comic, RON FORTIER'S TALES OF THE MACABRE # 1, and our newest Brother Bones pulp story in over six years. So see you all back here in seven.

THE FUN STUFF

  • On 1 Jul | '2011

                             THE AIR CHIEF'S FAVORITE READING
Greetings Loyal Airmen.  As you can see from the photo above, issues of MR.JIGSAW  #9 have finally arrived and the book came out great.  Ka-Blam did a super job, as usual, and we hope all you Jiggy fans our there will head on over to our links page and click on the Redbud Studio link to go and pick up a copy.  This one features three all new Jiggy stories, all written by the Air Chief and illustrated by Gary Kato, with editing and design work by our amigo, Rob Davis.  There's even two pages of fan letters for you to enjoy as well.  Gary and the Air Chief are having a blast doing this series and we truly hope you enjoy it as well.

Reading and writing comics has been such a huge part of the Air Chief's life, it would have been a much sadder and duller life without comic books.  Since moving to Fort Collins, we have the good pleasure of hooking up with several other professional comic creators.  So the Air Chief thought it might be a good idea if all us were to get together informally say once a month at a local breakfast/coffee shot. And so we put our plan in action by inviting writers Mike Baron and Todd Jones, along with artists Felipe Echevarria, Lee Oaks and Jeff Herndon to join us this coming Saturday morning and every first Sat. of the month from now on for what will become the Fort Collins Comics Creators Coffee Clutch.  And no, we will not divulge the secret location of this meeting happening for the first time this Sat, 2nd July.  But believe me, we are truly looking forward to spending some fun time with these talented folks and its cool that there will be three writers and three artists.  Now that's comic karma.  Ha.

Finally, a while back we mentioned having been asked to write a mystery story for a new Moonstone books anthology starring a 1950s radio insurance investigator, Johnny Dollar.  The show was called SINCERELY YOURS, JOHNNY DOLLAR and broadcast out of Los Angeles for many years.  Now Radio Archives has put several episodes on CD discs in a nice package for sale and hired our good pal, Doug Klauba, to paint the cover.

JOHNNY DOLLAR BY ARTIST DOUG KLAUBA
Doug turned in such a beautiful painting of the radio hero “with the action expense account” that Moonstone opted to use the same painting as the cover for their anthology which will hopefully be out this Fall.  We will keep you posted.  We had a blast writing for this project, he's such a cool character and Doug captured him perfectly in this beautiful painting.

Finally, our Mom was sick with pneumonia and hospitalized for a few days last weekend.  Thank you to all you Loyal Airmen who wrote in saying you were keeping her in your prayers.  She's back at her living quarters at the Wentworth Home and improving slowly.  Keep those prayers coming.

July 4th weekend in is here and we wish a rousing Happy Birthday to the greatest country in the world, the United States of America.  Still, when going out to celebrate our great home, do be careful out there on the roads.  We want you all back here safely next week.  And that's it for this week, Loyal Airmen.  In less than a month Rob and the Air Chief will be on their way to Pulp Fest in Columbus, Ohio.  Hope to see many of you Loyal Airmen there.  It's a great show and always much fun.

MORE FAMILY PICTURES

  • On 24 Jun | '2011

Greeting Loyal Airmen, last week we posted a bunch of family pictures Valerie and the Air Chief snapped while on our trip back east.  Here are the rest we promised to share with you, each special to us.

Granddaughter Chelsea LeClerc offering up some java at the coffee she works at back in Berwick, Me., Aroma Joe's.   The Air Chief and Valerie made it a point to stop by and pick up our favorite brew.  Chelsea will be a junior at Noble High School next year and is her class president.

Our granddaughter Kristi and the family pet, Chloe.  Dig that cowboy hat, the Air Chief still has to get one of those.  Kristi finished her first year at the University of New Hampshire on the Dean's List and we're all so proud of her.

And finally my favorite pix of course, Chelsea, the Air Chief and Kristi.  How lucky and blessed can one man be. Valerie and the Air Chief have six amazing grand kids and getting to visit and spend time with these two was truly wonderful.  We love and miss them already.  Those twelve days back in New England went by in a blur.

Last we also announced the release of  MR.JIGSAW – Man of a Thousand Parts # 9 from Redbud Studio.  Well we've produced as yet another title from this outfit and it is the private eye strip, PRICE FOR THE ASKING, which is co-written by the Air Chief and his pal, Bill Gladman.  Now a new page of PFTA appears every Monday on the Comic Related website.  Then, when the story is completed, we collect and print them as we've done with this first tale, “Yesterday's Burning.” It features the art of Brian Latimer, Chris Hoskins and Tim Hagans and the book also has two short prose stories by yours truly starring Detroit private-eye, Simon Pryce.  So we hope you'll check it out by going to our Redbud Studio link on our LINKS page.  Note, the second PFTA story arc, “Moving Targets” is now running on the site.

Finally, last year the good folks Wild Wolf Entertainment honored us with their best-selling award for our graphic novel, DAUGHTER OF DRACULA.  Well, lo and behold, Sean Collins of WWE recently informed Rob Davis and the Air Chief that our first ADVENTURES OF MR.JIGSAW collection has won that title for last year.

This was quite an honor and we can't thank Sean enough.  Let's see if we can go three for three.  Wild Wolf Entertainment will soon be releasing their edition of the award winning BOSTON BOMBERS graphic novel, thus getting it out to a larger audience for us.  All WWE books are on sale at Amazon and other book distributors.

And there you have it for this week, Loyal Airmen.  Except to say we've truly been enjoying the current crop of summer comic book movies.  Both THOR and the GREEN LANTERN were much fun.  Haven't seen the new X-Men reboot, but we are totally psyched about CAPTAIN AMERICA.  Hope you Loyal Airmen are too.

WE’RE BACK

  • On 17 Jun | '2011

Greetings Loyal Airmen, after twelve days back in New Hampshire and Maine visiting family and friends we are back at Hangar 27 HQ here in wonderful Fort Collins, Colorado.  We took a few fun pictures and wanted to share some of them with you this week and next.  But before we jumped into those, we have a truly important announcement to make.  Our newest Airship 27 Productions pulp title is out!  DAMABALLA is a novel by noted writer Charles Saunders and features the first ever African American 1930s pulp avenger.

This is a history making title in the pulp genre and we hope you'll give it a look.  It features a cover by Charles Fetherolf with interior illustrations by Clayton Hinkle, design work by Rob Davis and edited by Ye Old Air Chief.  You can pick up a copy by clicking on the Dirigible logo to the left of this column as ever.  Or download digital copy, again follow that link.  All of us involved with DAMBALLA are extremely proud of this effort.

And now on to those pictures of our trip.  Above is Valerie and her family.  Bottom row, left to right, her sisters Barbara, Lorraine the matriarch of the clan and sister Sandy.  Standing behind them, Valerie and brother Ronnie. It was taken at the Rockingham Assisted Living Home after we all shared a super Italian dinner together.

Not to me outdone, here's a shot of the Air Chief and his mom, Gabrielle, taken at the Wentworth Home.  It was great seeing her again, in her usual upbeat good spirits.  Mom's a spry 86.  Oh, and she loved our Airship 27 tee-shirt.  Too cool.

Here's a great photo of Val and our oldest daughter, Michelle, taken at her home in Maine.  We said across the street at one of their neighbor's home.  They had an apartment affixed to their house and were overly kind in allowing us to rent it during our stay.

And lastly a great shot of the Leclerc Family, left to right, Chelsea, Chris, Michelle & Kristi.  We've missed them so much and it was a pure joy getting to see them again.  Both Val and the Air Chief love our family more than mere words can say and they made our trip back something truly wonderful.  Next week we'll post a few more fun pictures.

And our last news of this first week back is the release of MR JIGSAW – Man of a Thousand Parts # 9 at long last.  We love artist Gary Kato's cover (above).  This volume features three brand new Jiggy adventures; “The Puzzle That is Charlie Grant,” “The Boring Captain Yawn,” and “I had Mr.Jigsaw's Secret Love Child.” As you can probably guess by those zany titles, this is another 24 pages of madcap, wholesome comic fun as only Jiggy can deliver.  We hope you'll pick it up. Simply go to our Links Page and click on the Redbud Studio icon.  Next week we'll showcase as yet another new title being launched from Redbud.

Till then, it's great to be back and thanks for stopping by as ever.

ON VACATION

  • On 1 Jun | '2011

Greetings Loyal Airmen, as we write this short entry, it is Tuesday night, 31st May. Tomorrow, Valerie and the Air Chief are flying back to New Hampshire for a two week vacation. It is our first trip back East since we moved here to Fort Collins, Co. and we are naturally anxious to see family and friends again.  Mark your calendars Loyal Airmen, as the Air Chief will be off-line until we return to Hangar 27 on June 13th.

But before heading out, we wanted to leave you with two items.  One a bit of pride for our pulp outfit, Airship 27 Productions and a book we put out last year.  GREEN LAMA UNBOUND.

This fantastic book earlier this year won the Pulp Factor Award for best novel going to Adam Lance Garcia and for Best Interior Art going to the amazing Mike Fyles.  Then in May it also captured the Pulp Ark Award for Best Pulp Revival.  We at Airship 27 thought it was only fitting to applaud these victories and have redesigned the cover to show them off for this talented duo.  Congratulations Adam and Mike, truly well deserved.  Oh, and if you'll sneak a peek at the back cover, Art Director Rob Davis took this opportunity to add the spiffy New Pulp logo to the book.  This movement is gaining steam big time.

Finally, we are going to leave you with something truly important. Yesterday we all celebrated Memorial Day and many of us took the time to remember and thank all those brave men and women who gave their all for our country, to include those severely wounded.  Well earlier this evening our oldest son, Scott, made us aware of a young G.I. who was recently wounded in Afghanistan, and may lose both his legs.  He has been shipped back to the states and is in an Army Hospital in Texas, where his long, hard road to recovery is about to begin.
Below in his mailing address and I would ask all Loyal Airmen reading these words to take a few minutes and send him a get well card…and add your thanks as fellow Americans.  If you have small children, get them to draw and color a picture, anything to help bring a smile to this brave young soldier.

New SHERLOCK HOLMES TITLE

  • On 27 May | '2011

Greeting Loyal Airmen.  It's been a hectic couple of weeks since our return from Pulp Ark. Regarding that fabulous weekend, the Air Chief finally finished his full Con Report and posted it over at the Comic Related website for all to read and enjoy. We also added 34 photos depicting the event and the very cool creators who were in attendance. So if you want to read it, head on over to (www.comicrelated.com).

The Air Chief is also extremely excited to announce the release of our latest pulp title from Airship 27 Productions, SHERLOCK HOLMES – CONSULTING DETECTIVE Vol III –  The first two volumes of this series were best sellers for us and we've no doubts this one will be as successful.  Holmes fans enjoy the fact that all the stories these books are written in the same classic style as the original tales written by Arthur Conan Doyle. Volume three shown above with that gorgeous cover by Brian McCulloch features five new stories by Ian Watons, Andrew Salmon, Joshua Reynolds and Aaron Smith (who penned two of them).  The design and interior illos are by our partner Rob Davis, the same fellow who won a Pulp Factory Award for his illustrations in Volume One. The book is now on sale at our Digital Website and will soon be available at our on-line shop as well, then of course it will arrive at Amazon, Barnes & Nobles and other well known book dealers. Just click on to our dirigible logo to the left of this column.

Artist Mike Manley and his Pulp Factory Award for Best Pulp Cover
Earlier this year, Rob and the Air Chief has the pleasure of announcing the winners of the 2010 Pulp Facotry Awards at the Windy City Paper & Pulp show in Chicago. Several of the winners could not be present and so their trophies were mailed today. This past week, we found this great shot of winner artist Mike Manley on his Facebook pages and wanted to share it with all of you. We hope Mike doesn't mind that we borrowed it.

Robin Hood Cover by Mike Manley
And just in case you forgot what Mike won the award for, here is that stunning painting without any text or logo.  From the first time the Air Chief and Rob Davis set eyes on it, we knew we had something truly special and apparently the voters for the PF Awards agreed with us.  Again, congratulations Mike and well deserved.  The exciting news is Mike is painting the second Robin Hood book in this series by author I.A. Watson entitled ARROW OF JUSTICE.  Look for it this Fall from Airship 27 of course.

Rough Sketch of ZONE 4 cast by artist Andrew Law
As all your Loyal Airmen know, the Air Chief every Sat. night dons his flying cap and becomes Sky Captain Ron, one of the four hosts of the popular Comic Related podcast, episodes post on the website the following Friday night. Well one our biggest fans, Australian artist Andrew Law took us up on our suggestion that there should be a Zone 4 comic and he has started work on such by doing up a series of roughs on his drawing pad. This week he shared a half dozen pages with us and we wanted to give you a sneak-peek at what he is whipping up.  The figures in the rough above feature, left to right, Chuck Kennedy (and his smiling triplets) Cary Kelley in the ship's porthole at sea, Brant Fowler at the radio controls and that last figure at the airship gondola's steering wheel is none other than Sky Captain Ron.  We love the energy evident in these roughs and are truly anxious to see this project develop.  We'll keep you posted and hopefully show other images as it all comes together.

Finally, this is the Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial start of the summer season.  Kids are out of school, days are longer and the baseball season is in full tilt, Go Red Sox!!   At the same time, it is also a time of remembrance for all those brave men and women throughout our country's history who made the ultimate sacrifice on her behalf.  It's our hope that somewhere during this fun filled weekend, all Loyal Airmen will take a few minutes to bow their heads in a silent prayer of thanks for those who will never be forgotten.

God bless, and see you back here next week.

PULP ARK ROCKED!!!

  • On 20 May | '2011

Greeting Loyal Airmen, well here we are, home from the first ever Pulp Ark convention/conference. It truly was one of the most memorable weekends we've ever experienced and we wish to thank pulp promoter Tommy Hancock and the good people of Batesville, Arkansas who welcomed us and help make this first show a tremendous success.

The ALL PULP Crew – Plexico – Fergusson – Fortier -Hancock & Reese
We could wax eloquently for hours on all the various aspects of those three days that made them so unique and special to us, but the Air Chief truly believes the primary reason for the show's success was the amazing assemblage of the coolest, most talented new pulp writers in the business today.  Shown above are five of the All Pulp crew led by Tommy Hancock and they are right to left, Van Allen Plexico, Derrick Ferguson, the Air Chief, Tommy Hancock & Barry Reese. To say we were humbled to be among these great writers is an understatement and the only thing greater then their talent was their kindness and generosity towards each other.  This truly was a Band of Pulp Brothers.

Rob Davis of Redbud Studio Shares Award Air Chief
Another truly memorable moment was Sat. night at the Award presentation where the Air Chief picked up the Pulp Ark Award for Best Pulp Comic for our graphic novel THE BOSTON BOMBERS, published by Rob Davis' Redbud Studio. Happily my amigo went up to accept the award with the yours truly, given to us by Tommy via the charming and lovely Pulptress.  She is Tommy's new spokeswoman/representative for the New Pulp movement we discussed last week.  Anyway, THE BOSTON BOMBERS is one of the Air Chief's personal favorites of all our comics work and to see it recognized in this fashion was a true joy.

Hamming it up, the Air Chief, Van Plexico & Tommy Hancock
Tommy had so many cool things happening all weekend it was hard to keep up with them.  One was the radio melodramas that were staged live, reading excerpts from several pulp stories written by some of the guests. Above the Air Chief participates in a scene from Van's own GIDEON CAIN story, with Van and Tommy. Oh, we assayed the role of the demon monster Cain slays.

More radio fun with Rob Davis, Tommy, Art Sippo & Fuller Bumpers
Not to be outdone, Rob got involved in the second radio skit, this time with Tommy, Art Sippo and Fuller Bumpers based on a scene from a LANCE STAR adventure by our own Bobby Nash.  They performed superbly.  The audience loved every second.

The gun-toting Pulptress gets a bead on writer Bobby Nash
Speaking of the affable Mr.Nash, he was supposed to be in the group shot with us posted at the top of this column, but alas had to split just prior to it being snapped.  So here's a shot of him having fun with the Pulptress. Bobby and the Air Chief first met nearly five years ago at Dragon Con in Atlanta and it was much fun to catch up with this talented young man once again.

In the “real” Bookcave with Ric Croxton & Dr.Art Sippo
Radio wasn't the only audio feature at Pulp Ark.  The entire show was recorded live by pulp podcasters supreme, Ric Croxton and Dr. Art Sippo.  Ric & Art host the tremendously popular pulp podcast known as the Bookcave and they were true celebrities at the show.  One of the highlights was getting them to pose in the old, musty, rock walled cellar where panels were held.  It seemed like the appropriate, authentic setting for these two inhibitors of the literary “book” cave.

Wayne Reinagel & the Domino Lady
Also on hand during the weekend was one of pulpdom's true classic characters, the sexy and mysterious Domino Lady; a character the Air Chief has actually written.  The young lady portraying her truly looked the part and our writer amigo, Wayne Reinagle was only too happy to have his photo taken by her side.

In the course of those three days the Air Chief took lots more pictures and they could easily fill this Flight Log for the next month; photos of other friends old and new such as Wayne Judge and his son, Victor, the Cranford brothers Scott & Patrick, Nancy Hansen and Lee Houston Jr., Bob Kennedy and Joe Gentile of Moonstone.  Believe us when we say the weekend was indeed a Pulp All Star Gathering. One we will never ever forget and hope to see you at next year for Pulp Ark Two.  For sure!!

               COMING IN THE FALL!
Finally we leave you with this gorgeous cover by Doug Klauba of Moonstone's newest project, a comic size pulp magazine that will combine both prose and comic stories.  You Loyal Airmen will recall that last year the Air Chief wrote several stories (in both formats) of an obscure pulp hero form the 30s, I.V. Frost. Well we are delighted to let you know those stories will be appearing in this and subsequent issues of this exciting new magazine.  We are told this premier issue will be out in August.  We can't wait!

And that wraps it up for this week, Loyal Airmen.  As always thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend. We'll be back in seven days as always.
Ron – Over & Out!
