  • On 24 Dec | '2010

                         MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM COLORADO!

Greetings Loyal Airmen.  Hopefully the picture above of Valerie and the Air Chief says it all.  As we are only a day away from celebrating our first Christmas in our new Colorado home, both of us would like to extend to all of you the Merriest Christmas & Happiest New Year.  This is a wonderful, spiritual time when miracles and dreams do come true, as they have for us this year.  We truly wish you the same happiness in the year ahead and thank you always for your faithful support and endearing friendship.  We owe you all so much. Thanks from the bottom of our hearts.

                                   NOW AVAILABLE !!
And finally, the latest issue of Mr. Jigsaw Man of a Thousand Parts is finally out.  Both artist Gary Kato and the Air Chief believe this is the finest Jigsaw story we have ever produced in the twenty seven years since we created the character.  And we are truly anxious to hear your thoughts on it. Simply go to our AIR FARE page and click on the new Redbud Studio link.  Rob Davis has set up this one page to carry all the books we have done together with him, Gary and other artists.  Do check it out.

Have a wonderful Christmas with your loved ones, take a moment to remember and pray for our men and women in uniform far away from home, serving our country. God bless and keep them safe.  And finally, may Santa bring you all those special surprises you've been wishing for all year long.

God bless, Loyal Airmen –

FIND LOCAL COMIC SHOP

  • On 17 Dec | '2010

Greetings Loyal Airmen, well here we are only a few more weeks till Christmas and the child in us is really starting to get excited.  Before we get into this week's Flight Log, let me bring you up to date on a couple of medical issues that have been plaguing the Air Chief and his pals.  Last week reported Rob Davis, Art Director of Airship 27 Productions and the head of Redbud Studio had his cancerous prostate removed.  Rob went through the surgery with flying colors, was released from the hospital two days later and is now home recovering slowly.  Reports indicate he is cancer free. The best holiday news of all.  From Rob's e-mails, we know he's anxious to get back to his drawing board as soon as possible. But still, as we've cautioned him, a little forced R & R is good for all of every now and then.  Do keep him in your thoughts and prayers, all of which he truly appreciates.  Let's get into the fun stuff, and we'll get back to the Air Chief's health report at the end.

As you are all aware, Valerie and the Air Chief are truly happy in our new home in Fort Collins, Colorado.  Well it was only a matter of time before we found the local shop here in the Fort.  Our son Alan brought us there yesterday; it's called GRYPHON – Games & Comics and is run by Liana & Sherman Sanders, two of the nicest people we've ever met.  Their store is located off the main avenue,  at 2020 S.College Ave. Suite B.  You can see there card, full address and phone number above.  Their store is one of the nicest, cleanest and well laid out shops the Air Chief has ever been in and we plan on being regulars.  In fact we're hoping eventually all local Loyal Airmen will be able to pick up our Mr.Jigsaw comics & other titles at GRYPHON – Games & Comics.

Speaking of our comics, we are still assembling some truly great comic strips starring classic pulp tales form the 1930s which we will be collecting in a whopping huge black and white anthology called…well, see the logo above.  Recently writer Adam Garcia sent us the roughs for the page of his Green Lama story as done by the artist on the strip, the amazing Mike Fyles.  We thought you'd all like a sneak peek.  We hope to have the book available sometime next Feb.

                  First Page Green Lama Comic
Looks absolutely fantastic.  Can't wait to see it completed.  Remember Loyal Airmen, this comic will contain eight great comic adventures of well known, colorful pulp heroes.  Some of them appearing in comics for the very first time.  Stay tuned.  More to come.

                   ZOMBIE BOOK # 3
Finally on the comic home front, the above little cutey.  Th Air Chief has never been a fan of zombie tales or movies.  But when our good buddy, artist Rich Woodall invited the Air Chief and Rob to do up a short zombie take for this new series from Terminal Press, we couldn't refuse him.  We ended up producing a five page ditty called DEADLINE.  Thus far there have been four editions of this now best selling anthology series. Ours appears in issue # 3 (see above) if you are interested in snagging a copy, simply go to their website at –
(www.TerminalPress.com) –  The price is $10 for 84 full color pages of gory, disgusting zombie fare.

And there you have it for another week at Hanger 27, Loyal Airmen.  Now time for  the Air Chief's latest health report.  The MRI pictures we took last week revealed that the Air Chief has three minor heriated disc in his lower back.  We are now going to consult a back surgeon early next week to discuss what our options are to fixing those; it most likely will be some kind of surgery.  We will keep you posted.  And considering how far medicine has come in the past ten years, we're told this is a fairly common procedure.  Also of note, our family doctor, at Valerie's suggestion, gave us a script for a super steroid drug that is a very powerful anti-inflammatory. Upon getting home yesterday, we took two and within an hour the leg pain that had been bothering us for over a month went away.  We almost cried realizing it was no longer …there.  We have enough of these pills to take us into the New Year to whatever date such surgery would be scheduled.

So there you have it, Loyal Airmen.  Amidst the parties and cards and gift wrapping, we continue to appreciate this as the Season of Peace & Love.  Whatever toys or baubles we share with each other, remember that we, as family, are the greatest gifts to one another.

Ron – Over & Out!

3 AMIGOS

  • On 10 Dec | '2010

Greetings Loyal Airmen. This week, amidst the frantic holiday season, we wanted to talk about friends. There have been millions of jokes and witty sayings on how we can't choose what family we are born in etc.etc.etc.  That is pretty much up to God.  Whereas during our lives we in fact make our own family of those people we choose to associate with, to experience life with on a truly personal level. They are our friends and as we go through life, from childhood to those last senior years, most of us will either have a lot of friends or sadly too few. The Good Lord has truly blessed the Air Chief with many, many true friends, especially in the years since we retired and started up our Airship 27 Productions.  Way too many to name them all here, and at the risk of even trying and forgetting one or two. If you are a regular visit to this Flight Log, you've most likely seen many of them in pictures here. Today we're going to talk about three of them.

Chuck Moore & “The Fozn”  Henry Winkler
Some five years ago a fellow named Chuck Moore invited comic book creators to set up their own personal forums on his new website called Comic Related.  The Air Chief took him up on that generous offer and all too quickly learned what a truly remarkable, decent, fun loving person he was.  Since then Chuck and the Air Chief have joined up at big comic cons like New York and small ones like Champion City this past year in Springfield, Ohio. Chuck is that rare individual who truly cares for others and defines what a true and good friend is.  Recently, he was at a con in Atlanta and had the pleasure of meeting actor Henry Winkler who played the ever cool Foznie in the hit TV series, HAPPY DAYS.  When Chuck sent us the photo above, we thought it was priceless, as it brings together two of the COOLEST guys in the world.

Kevin Noel Olson & Jiggy Comics
When my partner Rob Davis and I were in the middle of launching Airship 27 Productions, we ran into some problems with a publisher who chose to renege on deal to publish our pulp books.  Things looked really bad until one of our first writers, a guy name Kevin Noel Olson, suggested we contact his publisher, Cornerstone Book Publishers. He went to bat for us, helped make that introduction and now our partnership with Cornerstone is stronger than ever.  All thanks to Kevin's wanting to help us.  Since that time he has continued to contribute to our books.  He's a talented writer and has produced series of wonderful childrens books featuring a character called Eerey Tocsin.

Book # 2 in the Eerey Tocsin Series
If you know young people in your family who are big readers, the Air Chief can't recommend these books enough. You can find them at Amazon, Barnes & Noble on-line etc.  Kevin is another good friend who made so many good things possible in our lives. Check these books out, you'll be glad you did.

Smiling Rob Davis at Mid-Ohion Con
Finally, we had to mention the guy we regard as our Best Friend, our partner and confidant, Rob Davis.  The two of us first hooked up over twenty years ago via mail correspondence at the time we were both getting our comic book careers going.  Sadly, we were never able to get a project together off the ground back them. Time went along and we lost touch.  Then, by the hand of God, via the internet, we hooked up a second time when the Air Chief was just dreaming of Airship 27.  Without Rob and his talent, his work, support and enthusiasm, that dream would have remained just that, a dream

Earlier this week Rob had surgery to remove a cancerous organ.  We want to thank all our Loyal Airmen who prayed and kept him, and his family, in their thoughts.  We are so happy to report that all went fell, Rob was home two days later and is on the mend.  As he told me in an e-mail, the night before his surgery, “We still have a lot of great pulp books to get out.”  Yes, we do, Rob.  And the Air Chief thanks God every day for a friend like you.

And so we end this with a little advice, never ever take your friends for granted, Loyal Airmen.  Be aware of the joy, richness and love they bring into your lives…and appreciate them daily.  It is truly a rich man who has real friends.  The Air Chief today is one of the richest of them all.

ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD

  • On 3 Dec | '2010

Greetings Loyal Airmen and welcome to this week's Flight Log.  Today we're going to be talking about one of the Air Chief's favorite classic heroes, Robin Hood.

                                        Errol Flynn as Robin Hood
We don't recall the very first time we saw the movie, “The Adventures of Robin Hood,” starring the greatest screen swashbuckler of them all, Errol Flynn., but we know how much we enjoyed the experience.  In fact to this day it remains our second most favorite movie of all time.  It was our introduction to this classic hero who robbed from the rich to give to the poor, a man who became an outlaw rather than give in to immoral and unjust laws of his time. We never get tired of seeing his story told be it in cinema, television or the printed page.  In movies such stars as Douglas Fairbanks, Richard Todd, Sean Connery, Kevin Costner and most recently Russell Crowe have all taken a stab at playing this wonderful rogue. Still Flynn remains number one in our hearts. Which is why we were so excited last year when British writer, Ian Watson came to us with a brand new trilogy of the legend.

Map Showcasing lands in which the Robin Hood legend was born.
As it turned out, Ian lives only a short distance from Sherwood Forest and wanted to give the readers an historically accurate Robin Hood, but still filled with the same trademark action, adventure and romance we all expect to find in this ageless tale.  He delivered and lots more.  ROBIN HOOD – KING OF SHERWOOD is by far one of the finest books the Air Chief has had the pleasure of reading this year.  We bring this up now because this past week the Air Chief has been reading and editing the second volume in the trilogy ROBIN HOOD – ARROW OF JUSTICE and it is just a terrific as the first book.

                      Cover painting by Mike Manley
When we first put ROBIN HOOD – KING OF SHERWOOD, we were lucky enough to recruit one of the finest artists in the country, Mike Manley, to do our cover.  The Air Chief thought you might like to see it without the logo and text on it to better appreciate Mike's gorgeous painting.  ROBIN HOOD – KING OF SHERWOOD was released in Feb.  We are also very thrilled to announce that Mike has signed on to do the cover for ARROW OF JUSTICE as well.  The Air Chief and his partner, art director Rob Davis, couldn't be happier.  It's much like getting an early Christmas gift.

And it's not too late to pick up a copy of this book.  All you need do is click on to the our Airship 27 dirigible logo to the left of this column and it will link you to our on-line store where this volume is on-sale.  Of course if you are so inclined, you can get it Amazon and Barnes & Noble if you prefer.  And might we humbly suggest, if you have any devoted readers in your family, or would like to fire up the reading bug in your children, you could not give them a better Christmas gift than ROBIN HOOD – KING OF SHERWOOD by Ian Watson.

                     Illo by Rob Davis
Of course like all Airship 27 pulp titles, this one had nine beautiful illustration, these by Rob. All of us agree, including the author, that they are some of Rob's finest work.  And before you ask, the answer is, yes, Rob will once again be providing the interior pieces for the new book.  Which, with fingers crossed, we will have out early next Spring.  But before that happens, Rob has to take care of an important health issue.  Next Monday, Dec. 6th he will be going to the hospital to have his prostate removed.  Rob is a spiritual guy and a positive one. Still he would so appreciate all your kind thoughts and prayers come Monday. And should any of you Loyal Airmen wish to send him a get-well card, please drop us a line and we'll pass along his mailing address. Those kind of simple things go a long way in making someone smile when the going gets a little rough.

Which is a good way to segue into our thanks to all of you who have been praying that the Air Chief's back problems will heal up.  We saw an orthopedic specialist this past week and he has us doing some walking exercises before we go back and see him again next week at which time he will schedule an M.R.I. Hopefully this will pinpoint the source of the ailment and we can get things squared away and back to normal. We will keep you posted as ever.

Again, as always, thanks for stopping by, and please, consider picking up ROBIN HOOD – KING OF SHERWOOD.  Your support is always appreciated.

Ron – Over & Out.

ZONE 4

  • On 26 Nov | '2010

Greetings Loyal Airmen.  As we write this latest Flight Log, our first Thanksgiving in our new Colorado home is coming to a happy end. It's been a great holiday and we sincerely hope it was for all of you as well.  Our sciatica problem hasn't completely healed as yet and the past week has been arduous at times, but with Val's loving care, we are slowly getting back to normal. Hopefully by this time next week, the Air Chief will be lots more like himself health wise. Just keep those kind thoughts and prayers coming, they are working.

Comic Writers Cary Kelley & Brant Fowler
Earlier in the year we posted the above photo taken at this year's Champion City Comic Con in Springfield, Ohio.  Brant, Cary, along with John Wilson and Chuck Kennedy have been hosting a weekly podcast about comics called ZONE 4.  In the past few weeks the Air Chief was invited on board as a sub when one of the four could not make a recording and truly enjoyed the experience.  This afternoon we were informed that because of a truly busy creative schedule, John has had to leave hosting the show.  Brant contacted us on behalf of himself, Chuck and Cary with an invitation to fill the empty hosting chair.  We were only too happy to accept this wonderful invitation and eager to do our first podcast as a regular.   ZONE 4 records every Sat. evening and then that episode is posted the following Friday night on the Comic Related website. Valerie always said we belonged in radio and podcasting is the internet version of radio.  We hope many of you Loyal Airmen will give a listen.  This is going to be so much fun.

Speaking of Comic Related fun things, check out the mock-up above.  One of the founding members of CR, Darren Mueller had this great idea of doing a trading card set featuring characters from those independent creators who belong to CR and frequent its forums all the time.  Rob Davis and the Air Chief thought this was a terrific idea and have contributed Mr.Jigsaw to the set.  The above image is ONLY a mock-up of what the back of a such a trading will look like.  The front would feature that cover of  Jiggy # 1, but without the yellow text blurb.  We've ordered 750 of these cards with the intent of passing them out to our fans at future conventions.  Darren thus far has recruited well over twenty creators for this first ever Comic Related Indy Trading Card Series.  As soon as the real cards are finished, we'll be sure to post the news right here.

The Air Chief's new fun center.
When we moved half-way across the country, from New Hampshire to Colorado, we hired a moving truck to carry all our belongs and they did a super job.  Sadly one item was damaged in the process and it was our big screen TV.  Whereas the outfit was insured, they instructed us on how to fill out a claim form and we're only to glad to reimburse us for the price of the broke set.  Earlier this week, while the Air Chief was still tied to his office chair, astride another cold pack, Valerie and our son, Alan, went TV shopping to get us a new unit.  Two hours later they came home with the above set-up.  Val had picked up the new big-screen TV and a new fangle sound strip from the insurance funds. Then Alan surprised her, and eventually the Air Chief, by adding a Blue-Ray player to the package as his early Christmas gift to us.  Needless to say the Air Chief was delighted and most grateful.  Alan got it all set up with the help his son, Alex, that very night.  The picture and sound quality are amazing and the Air Chief is once again able to enjoy watching movies.  Talk about a great Thanksgiving.  Thanks, Al, Nicole, Cora and Alex.  That was the coolest gift of all.

Christmas is just around the corner.
And so with Thanksgiving here, Val and Alan set about putting up our decorations.  Everything looks so festive. We were playing Christmas music while enjoying our Thanksgiving dinner.  This is a truly wonderful time of year and as we enter into the holiday season, all of us here at Airship 27 want to wish all our Loyal Airmen and their families a truly special season.  Thanks for stopping by as always and we'll see you back here in seven days.

Ron – Over & Out.

SCIATICA BLUES

  • On 19 Nov | '2010

Greeting Loyal Airman. The Air Chief has been in rough shape this past week.  Somehow we pinched a nerve in our back side, the sciatica most likely from the pain we feel when standing.  This is not the first time we've had lower back pain and the only way to resolve it is to 1) baby it, 2) stay off our feet as much as possible, 3) sit on ice packs to reduce the inflamed area and 4) be patient as there is no rushing the healing.  Still since we made our condition known over on Facebook, many of you Loyal Airmen have been quick to offer up well wishes and prayers for our return to good health. We can't thank you enough.  Now one of the ways we've been pressing on is to occupy ourselves with lots of fun and positive things.

Gabrielle Fortier and Friend At Local Museum
Members of the Fortier Clan, both old and young have been busy these past few weeks including Mom, who visited a local Dover, NH. museum.  She was taken by one particular exhibition featuring photos of the old woolen mills that sprang up all over New England in the late early 1930s.  As a young woman, Mom worked in several of these large, busy factories.  The photo above shows her reliving some of those memories for one of her friends from the Wentworth Home.

                                                          Logan,  Mickey, and Taryn
While at the same time, two of the youngest members of the family, Gabe's great-grandchildren, Logan and Taryn Fortier, were vacationing with their parents in Disney World in Orlando, Florida.  Our son Scott and his wife Katie, completely surprised them by not telling them about the trip until the morning they woke them up and told them the limousine was outside waiting to take them to the airport.  From all reports and these pictures, Logan and Taryn had a fantastic time, creating tons of new memories they'll remember forever.

                            Ravenwood – Stepson of Mystery
And despite my physical set back this past week, with the help of my friends, creative projects have been forging ahead and we thought you'd enjoy some sneak-peeks.  On the pulp front, Airship 27 Productions is now putting the final touches on our 12 th book of the year, an anthology of brand new stories starring one of the more obscure classic pulp heroes from the 1930s, Ravenwood – Stepson of Mystery.  The above illustration is one of twelve that will appear in the book, as drawn by Charles Fetherolf.  The book will feature four brand new stories of this unique occult detective who solves bizarre, supernatural mysterious.  You won't want to miss it.

Mr. Jigsaw # 8 by Kato & Buniak
And finally, we are within a week or two of releasing our eight issue of the new Mr.Jigsaw Man of a Thousand Parts series produced by Redbud Studio.  The above unfinished cover piece was penciled by co-creator Gary Kato and inked by cartoonist Brian Buniak.  The Air Chief doesn't often get too excited about a book, but this one is something truly special.  All of us involved believe it is the finest Mr.Jigsaw story ever done, for so many reasons, and we cannot wait to get it out there. Stay tuned, it is on its way.

And there you have it for this week, Loyal Airmen.  Hopefully by the time you return for next week's Flight Log, the Air Chief will be feeling a whole lot better.  Oh, and lest week forget, next week is Thanksgiving.  We wish all of you and your loved ones the best holiday ever.  Know that when the Fortiers gather next week, part of our prayer will be thanking the Good Lord not only for our bountiful blessings, but for your continued loyalty and support.  Your are all part of our extended family, Loyal Airmen.  God bless you and Happy Thanksgiving.

OUR 11th TITLE THIS YEAR

  • On 12 Nov | '2010

Greeting Loyal Airmen, well the Air Chief received lots of very cool and funny birthday cards last week for his 64th birthday.  None more hilarious than the one above given to us by Val, better known as Our Better Half.  The inside follow up read…WHO'S BEEN AROUND THE TRACK A FEW TIMES AND STILL HASN'T RUN OUT OF GAS.   Hahahaha, thank you dear.  We so appreciate the sentiment.

Smiling Rob Davis at Mid-Ohio Con
And while the Air Chief was happily celebrating his first birthday here in Colorado, our Airship 27 Partner and Art Director was ably representing the team in Columbus at this year's Mid-Ohio Con.  One of the oldest and most loved such gatherings, Rob reports he had a great time, met a lot of great fans and got to visit with old amigos he hadn't seen in years.  Thanks to all you Loyal Airmen who stopped by his table to say Hi.

While at Mid-Ohio, Rob sold quite a few of our Airship 27 Productions pulp titles.  Pictured above is our latest and 11th book release of the year;  MYSTERY MEN (& Women), a collection starring four brand new pulp heroes created in the mold of the classic avengers of the 1930s.  In this volume you'll meet Gridiron by David Book, Red Veil by Aaron Smith, the Bagman by B.C. Bell and Dusk by Barry Reese.  All delivered with a beautiful painted cover by the amazing Ingrid Hardy.  As ever you can order a copy of this new Airship 27 book by clicking on to the dirigible logo to the left of this column.  If you like truly unique and bizarre heroes, this is the book for you.  As always, thanks for your support.

Cora, Storm Trooper, Alex, Bike Rider, Air Chief and R2D2
Finally we leave you with the above photo.  Last Sunday afternoon the Air Chief was busily at work in his office when we got received a call that a group of Star Wars players were out in front of a local mall helping to kick off the soon to start Holiday Season.  We immediately jumped in the car and joined our grand kids, Cora and Alex to get the fun picture you see here.  Never let it be said we'll ever pass up an opportunity to celebrate Star Wars.

So till next week, Loyal Airmen, May the Force be with you!

64 ODDS & ENDS

  • On 5 Nov | '2010

Greetings Loyal Airmen, as you can see by the arrival of this speedy air racer, Hangar 27 is getting all geared up for a party. Nov. 5th, Guy Fawkes Day in England, is the Air Chief's 64th birthday.  Its a fun time and this year also connected with a very special election.  (Not that we were at all unhappy with this week's Congress victory by the Republicans, of which the Air Chief is a member in good standing.)  More importantly, our granddaughter will be vying for the Presidency of her sophomore high school class.  Go Chelsea!  We are sending her all our good wishes for a landslide victory.  She has campaigned long and hard, and much nobler than most of the politicians who flooded our airwaves the past few months.  Thank heavens that's over. Now maybe they can actually get to the job of governing, though the Air Chief isn't going to hold is breath. When it comes to government, the older the Air Chief gets, the more he understands why Guy Fawkes tried to blow up Parliament. It probably seemed like a really good idea at the time.  Ha.

My favorite food in the whole world is crepes, those thin, sweet pancakes the French invented long ago.  My mother, displaying her own French Canadian heritage, would often whip up a batch for us when we were growing up and Valerie makes them the exact same way. So it has become a once a year treat for the Air Chief. Even as we pen this on the night before, we can almost taste those crepes, layered in butter with a thin coating of maple syrup.  Geez, it is probably a good thing both of us joined a gym this week.  Oh yes, now resident of the Rocky Mountain state, Valerie and the Air Chief have committed themselves to a healthy and fit life style.  The Air Chief has a twenty pound spare tire around his middle that has got to go.  Turning 64th, and feeling good, we only want to improve on that health by dropping the weight and really enjoying the coming years with as much vim and vigor as we can muster.  We are 64 years young and we aim to prove it.

The New Sherlock Holmes & Dr. Watson
As most of you Loyal Airmen know, the Air Chief is a huge Sherlock Holmes fan and the two volumes of Sherlock Holmes stories we've published via our Airship 27 Productions pulp books have been our best sellers for the past year.  Which is why we were delighted to find on PBS Masterpiece Mystery the first three episodes of a new BBC televisions series called Sherlock which offers up the great detective and his loyal assistance living and working in a modern day London. At first it seemed impossible to think of Holmes using the internet, cell phones etc., but after viewing the first couple of shows, we've become big fans.  Aside from the extremely well written stories and the great production values, it is the duo starring in the roles that make it work for us.  Benedict Camberbatch and Martin Freeman are just great as Holmes & Watson.  If you've not seen this show yet, we urge you to find. It truly is worth your time.

Finally, many, many years ago when our oldest Granddaughter, Kristi, was in kindergarten, she was asked to write about someone special to her.  Her teacher told the class it could be a relative or pet.  Well two days later all the kids in that class stood up to read their little stories about their cats or dogs.  All had chosen to write about their pets.  All but one of them.  Kristi stood up, opened her pages and told her class about her Pepere (grandfather). The Air Chief was present and it was one of the proudest, sweetest moments in his life.  Last week, Ms Kristi, now a freshmen at the University of New Hampshire, called to ask if she could interview us for  a paper for her Tourism Class.  She needed to talk with someone who had traveled to distant lands.  And as we'd been in South East Asia, Russia and Canada, we fit the bill.  A few days later she sent along her finished paper for our approval before turning it in to her teacher.  Of course she had done a marvelous job with the interview and it read extremely well.  Upon writing back to her to confirm this, it dawned us that after all these many years, Kristi was still writing about her Pepere.  Yeah, even at 64, life is still sweet.

Take care, Loyal Airmen, have a great week and see you back here in seven.

COLORADO HALLOWEEN

  • On 29 Oct | '2010

The Air Chief Gives Thumbs Up To HALLOWEEN
Greeting Loyal Airmen, as you can see by the photo above, the Air Chief is already to dispense lots of candy treats to whatever little ghosts, goblins or zombies come marching up the steps to our new Colorado Hangar.  Honestly, this is one of our favorite holidays ever, bringing back tons of memories of when we were kids back in New Hampshire, getting all dressed up and going out on what we called Beggar's Night.  This took place the evening before Halloween.  Here in Fort Collins, Trick or Treat happens on Halloween night itself.  Time to take out some horror DVDs and settle in for some good, scary fun.

                                         View From Our Back Yard
One of the joys of living here in Fort Collins, at the foothills of the magnificent Rocky Mountains is the majestic view we have whenever we look westward.  Early this afternoon Valerie and the Air Chief went out for a good, brisk hour long walk.  Passing by a local high school down the street from our house, Val brought along her camera to snap a few pictures of the scenery so that we could share it with you Loyal Airmen.  And keep in mind what you are seeing in this photo is only the westward start of the entire range…these peaks are only the start of the actual Rockies.  Totally awe inspiring.

Speaking of inspiring, our daughter Michelle, along with her best friend, Tammy, has started a blog called BEST FRIENDS IN FAITH.  It is devoted to Christian women and intended to provide them with friendship, support and encouragement.  All of us in the family are so proud of her and this new venture.  If you are curious, you can find it at (http://www.michelleandtammy.blogspot.com) .

Finally, we leave you this week with a sneak-peek at an exciting new project currently being assembled; AIRSHIP 27 PRESENTS – ALL STAR PULP COMICS.  This 56 pg black and white comic will feature seven 8 pg adventures starring classic pulp heroes such as the Purple Scar, the Rook and Domino Lady among others.  It will feature the return of veteran artists Jeff Butler (Badger & Green Hornet) and Steve Erwin (Superman, Checkmate & Terminator Deathstroke) back to comics for the first time in over a decade.  Rob Davis will produce this amazing joint between Airship 27 & Redbud Studio.  Above is his terrific logo for the proposed color cover.  Stay tuned, Loyal Airmen, we'll keep you posted as it develops. We hope to have it finished by the start of 2011 and have copies for sale at next year's Windy City Pulp & Paper con.

And there you have our Flight Log for this, the end of October and the start of November.  We wish all you Loyal Airmen a fun filled, safe HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

LIVING IN THE MIDDLE

Welcome Loyal Airmen, to our second Flight Log entry from our new Colorado Hangar homebase.  Living within sight of the majestic Rocky Mountains has been a real inspiration for the Air Chief. Every day Val and the Air Chief go out and walk, we see them rising in the background, their tips now clearly snow covered as Fall quickly rushes into Winter. Of course moving half-way across the country has created some issues that will take some getting use to, this living in the middle of things.  When the Air Chief use to wake up on the East Coast, he would start posting on various websites several hours before his mid-west colleagues and even longer for those folks living on the west coast.  Now, when we walk into our office, usually at 8 A.M. and log on, it is usually to a dozen e-mails send from folks back East.  And then we remember they are actually up two hours ahead us now.  So its us having to play catch and get cracking daily.  Same applies to catching our favorite TV shows, the few we watch. What we would usually catch at 10 PM back in New England now airs between 8 and 9 PM.  We missed quite a few episodes because we simply can't seem to find the right time slots out here.  Back home Jay Leno would come on at 11:35 PM.  Here he's signing off at 11 PM.  Believe me, it is weird.  Just some of the little quirks and as stated, we will eventually adjust to as time goes by. We are truly loving it here and happily, living in the age of the internet, we haven't missed one deadline in regards to our current writing and editing gigs.

An example of this is today's release of our latest title from Airship 27 Productions, just in time for the Halloween season, WEIRD HORROR TALES – The Feasting.  The second collection of macabre tales by award winning writer Michael Vance, with illustrations by Earl Geier and a stunning cover by Christophe Dessaigne.  If you enjoy really creepy stories, do not miss this great book.  As always you can order it at our on-line store (just click on the dirigible logo to the left of this column) or order it from Barnes & Noble on-line, Amazon and other major book distributors.

And above is one of the covers to the just released  GREEN HORNET CHRONICLES from Moonstone Books.  We told you about this anthology of new GH stories several months ago when we were asked to contribute a tale.  Ours is called The Eyes of the Madonna and it is our first new GH adventure since we worked on the old Now Comic series. This book has some great stories and we hope you'll pick up a copy and let us know what you think.  The Air Chief has also done an Avenger pulp story for Moonstone which will appear in their second anthology of that series.  We'll give you a heads up when it comes out, hopefully before year's end.

And there you have this week's Flight Log, Loyal Airmen.  As always, thanks for stopping by and your support of our humble efforts.  Next week is Halloween, one of our favorite times of the year.  See you back here then.
