WINTER ROARS

  • On 4 Feb | '2022

Greetings Loyal Airmen, well in the past few weeks we’ve seen Mother Nature really unleashing her winter bounty across the country from snow, blizzards and freezing rains. We truly all you Loyal Airmen who live in the norther climes are taking care, being careful and staying toasty warm. Whereas here at Hangar 27 work is moving along at a steady clip.

BEYOND THE STARS

Artist Andrea Bormida is whipping through our first script for this six part mini-series to be published Silverline Comics out of Florida. We are truly excited about this project and how fast it is progressing.

BOSTON BOMBERS Vol Two

BombersBostonBombers2-1

Over thirty years ago the Air Chief wrote the five issue mini-series THE BOSTON BOMBERS for Caliber Press. Eventually the series was collected as a graphic novel by our partner, artist Rob Davis for his Redbud Studio independent comic line. The story of an alternate world where World War II never happened and the Roman Empire survived in South Africa and the Holy Catholic Church is headquartered in Jerusalem. It’s the 1970s in this world and Indra Devine and her all girl team are work for the League of Nations while at the same time being secret agent for the Pope, a woman in this world. The book has sold hundreds of copies in the past ten years, but the story itself was never fully told and now, at Rob’s urging, we are going to tell that story. Above left is the graphic novel cover (the book very much available at Amazon) while the page to the right is Rob’s first for THE BOSTON BOMBERS Vol Two.  Oh yeah, it’s happening Loyal Airmen. We’ll produce the series, like the first, as a mini, with individual issues and then when done, collect them all. Stay tuned.

JIN & TONIK

And here are pages 22 & 23 for “JIN & TONIK” by the amazing Cesar Feliciano and yours truly. In this sequence, Captain Darya Tonikova deals with a mad suicide bomber with the help of a swivel chair. We are so thrilled by Cesar’s magnificent work on these pages. This is a terrific comic we are proud to be involved with.

SPIDEY

Finally, we’re sure many of you Loyal Airmen will recall that a few weeks ago we talked about love of Country Western Music. We should have also mentioned that early on in our writing career, we became huge fans of movie scores. Note, we are not referring to soundtracks. Scores and soundtracks are two different things. If a director chooses to use already recorded songs or whatever, then they become part of a soundtrack. Lots of modern directors do that. Whereas the score is the originally record music (no songs or lyrics) written specifically for the movie by a composer. Over the years we’ve amassed a collection of over 400 score CDs from movies dating back to the 1930s to today. One thing we noted over the past few years that in regards to superhero flicks, DC by far outclassed Marvel, what with master composers like John Williams, Danny Elfman and so many others have created memorable music that have become connected with their heroes. Whereas Marvel on the other seemed to purposely distance themselves from such associations and for the most part, all their scores have sounded generic, with no identifiable cues. Truly a sad state of affairs. Then along comes this new movie, SPIDER-MAN No Way Home and something great has happened. The Marvel folks went and hired super talented music composer Michael Giacchino and he delivered a truly lush, beautiful score that brilliant blends both action cues with tender, melodramatic motifs. It didn’t hurt that the movie itself is terrific in every way from acting to directing. That being the case, Giacchino’s music is very much worth finding and picking up. As we just did. We’re going to enjoy listening to it a few times, rest assured. We think you would to.

And that, Loyal Airmen, is it for this week.  Again, as always, thanks for stopping by and we’ll see you back here next Friday. Till then stay safe,

Ron – Over & Out!
