THANKS COMIC FANS

  • On 20 Dec | '2024

Blanky

Greetings Loyal Airmen, at the end of last week’s Flight Log we posted the great news that the funding campaign for BEYOND THE STARS # 4 had succeeded four days before the final day. Obviously all of us on the team, from artists Andrea Bormid & Mike Belcher along with SilverLine publisher Roland Mann are thrilled and appreciative of your continued support for this series. In fact by the last day of the campaign, Tues 17th, Dec, the finally take was $877.  Above are the three offered covers to that issue. Going left to right, Andrea’s official cover, then the two alternatives. Middle – by Rob Davis and far right – Jose Fuentes. We loved all of them. Alright, Loyal Airmen, now on to book # 5.

THE BOSTON BOMBERS Vol 2 Issue # 3

Meanwhile Rob also continues his gorgeous work on our continuing The Boston Bombers second volume. Above are pages 4 & 5 from issue # 3. The Air Chief has already penned issue four. This is easily some of Rob’s most beautiful work and like the first two issues, will be printed at Ka-Blam and released via Rob’s own Redbud Studio. Stay tuned.

CHIVALRY INC.

Artist Jesse Hasan continues his wonderful inking over Javier Lugo’s pencils for issue # 1. Meanwhile Javier is busy at work on drawing issue # 2. This book will be in color and the Air Chief is personally excited to see artist Mickey Clausen’s colors on all these great pages. Stay tuned.

VALERIE’S RECOVERY

DANCE

The best of the past week was Valerie’s excellent post-op visit with the doctor. It’s been two week’s since her right knee replacement surgery and she is doing extremely well. Sure, there is still pain and we are both so grateful for all of you who have kept her in your thoughts and prayers. They have uplifted us both so much. But those of you who know Val, know how she never backs down from a goal and she is already exceeding expectations for this recovery. Her therapist released her after only six visits and the doctor’s assistant gave her visit a whopping success. She is ahead of the curve. We go back in one month, at which time, the Air Chief predicts she’ll be chomping to have her restrictions lifted and get back to our daily walking routines. Thank you Lord. It’s going to be a great Christmas.

BEN DUNN REMEMBERS OUR POPEYE COMICS

471016736_612033194689371_1565577882117389509_n470835414_612033198022704_3287232233508165558_n

Artist Ben Dunn posted the following on Facebook a few days ago. “Now that POPEYE is fixing to fall into the public domain I am reminded of my stint on the spinach eating sailor man. Back in the late 1980’s I was contacted by Crimson Nun, Green Hornet writer RON FORTIER to do a licensed POPEYE comic by Ocean Comics. Ron and I knew each other professionally and I was honored he would ask me to do this character. It was an interesting take and the first issue did well enough to warrant a second. I do not know how they did but it ended there. As far as I know they have never been reprinted or collected.

To answer Ben’s query, neither was ever reprinted, or collected. They remain, to this day, much sought after collectors treasures for Popeye fans. The Air Chief still has a soft spot in his heart for them and we do treasure the few copies we still have hidden away.

THE CRIMSON NUN

Blanky

The Air Chief is about seventy-five percent finished writing issue # 3 of the new Crimson Nun series for Antarctic Press. The story features Pope Pius XI, as a supporting character and the Chapel of Saint Joan. The building’s history dovetailed into our plot as if preordained. Meanwhile artist Jesse Thomas is doing a fantastic job with issue # 2. Somehow, more and more elements of our faith emerge in our scripts. Thank you, Lord.

And that’s it for this week, Loyal Airmen. As ever, thanks for dropping by and we’ll see you back here again next Friday.

COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS

  • On 13 Dec | '2024

Greetings Loyal Airmen, as our deacon mentioned last Sunday at mass, we’re already two weeks into the Advent season and as you are reading this entry, almost three. Meaning we are in the final stages of counting down to Christmas. Wow, but this year really flew by. Valerie’s recovery from her knee replacement surgery continues to go well at a steady pace. Thanks again for all your continued prayers and well wishes. They mean so much to us. Alright, so what fun things moved ahead this past week. Let’s check it out.

JIN & TONIK # 2

Artist Ceasar Feliciano isn’t wasting any time diving into the second chapter of this decade spanning spy action thriller. He’s already finished the first five pages and above are two of those. His work continues to bowl us over and simply gets better with every new page. Going to be a great comic when completed.

SILVERLINE COMICS PODCAST

SILVERLINE

As most of  you Loyal Airmen know, the Air Chief does a regular You Tube Podcast with Chief Engineer Rob Davis whenever we release a new Airship 27 title. Years ago, we were also regulars on a weekly comic show called Zone 4 along with Brant Fowler, John Wilson and Gordon Dymowski. Well, we’re happy to announce we signed on to another series, the Silverline Comics Tues Night program which also records weekly. We are the new member to the podcast, joining writer Tim Thiessen and artists David Rios and Jose Fuentes. The show airs on You Tube at this link. Check it out. Artist Jesse Thomas continues his truly beautiful work on the second issue of our series, The Crimson Nun, for Antarctic Press. Jesse’s pencils are truly sensitive to the story and convey so much of the characters’ emotions in each panel. While his coloring maintains a deft touch, adding atmosphere to the setting of a small French farming village. He is truly a gifted artist and a joy to work with.

BEYOND THE STARS # 4

ONE STORY- TWO COMICS

  • On 6 Dec | '2024

Greetings Loyal Airmen, well here we are full on into the Christmas Advent season and as expected things are starting to get hectic. Here’s hope all of you can take each day one at a time; relish the this festive time and have fun with it.

TOMORROW GIRL & MR. JIGSAW

IMG_5077DINO

A while back we let you know about the fun comic project the Air Chief launched with artists Ben Dunn and Gary Kato. As most of you know, Gary, is the co-creator of Mr. Jigsaw, our comedy super-hero that we publish via Rob Davis’ Redbud Studio. Whereas Tomorrow Girl is Ben Dunn’s creation and he tells her adventures via his own Antarctic Press out of Texas. So what happened is Ben suggested the Air Chief write a Tomorrow Girl issue wherein Mr. Jigsaw would guest-star. We liked the idea and did just that. Then having finished the script, we realized the story gave both heroes 50/50 time in the spotlight and could just as easily be an issue of Mr. Jigsaw. Hmm…? An issue drawn by Gary. One script from which we’d get two comics, each telling the exact same story, but from the unique interpretation of each artist. Above is the cover by Ben at left. To the right is Gary’s cover. Gary has finished his issue, and we hope to have it on-sale at (www.IndyPlanet.com) within the next few months. No worries, Loyal Airmen, we’ll let you know when you can order it. And we’ll do the same when Ben completes and publishes his version via Antarctic Press. Imagine having both issues in front of you, side by side, and comparing the art on each page. Fingers crossed, you Loyal Airmen will get a big kick out of this.

VAL’S SECOND KNEE FINISHED

f47008a95f3b1a382e86c36880e58e09

This past Tuesday Val had her right knee replaced at the Orthopedic Surgery Center in Loveland, CO. As many of your Loyal already know, she had the left done this time last year. Happily surgery’s surgery went as well as that, and now she’s on the mend with a six week recovery ahead of her. Meaning daily therapy to get that new knee working properly. We are so proud of her and thrilled that after thirty years of suffering, the arthritis in those joints is now gone forever. Thank you all those wonderful doctors and nurses who took such good care of us, and of course Our Lord Jesus Christ who blesses us daily.

11 DAYS TO RAISE $411

THREE

Funding campaign enters final weeks. As of this writing, we are less than to weeks away from the close of our Go Fund My Comic campaign. We’ve only 11 days left to raise $411. Working on this six issue mini-series with artists Andrea Bormida and Mike Belcher is been tons of fun. Keep in mind, the Air Chief cut his writing teeth on such other sci-comics such as Terminator and Gene Roddenberry’s Lost Universe. We love sci-fi. “Beyond the Stars” as been the highlight in that regards and we are damn proud of these first four issues. We’re anxious to add book # 4 to those above here. And don’t forget, at this writing, Andrea has already penciled nearly half of issue # 5.  With fingers crossed that, and the final issue # 6 will be out next year, wrapping up the story. We hope you Loyal Airmen will stick along for that conclusion.

AIR CHIEF’S FIRST CHRISTMAS GIFT

IMG_0804

Finally, the Air Chief wants to give a big, warm shout-out to our two amazing friends, Michael & Donna Housel. Michael’s an Airship 27 writer and every year, no matter how we protest, he and his wife Donna send us a wonderful Christmas. And it’s traditionally the first we receive. This year was no exception, and knowing my career, they usually surprise us with something we are truly fond us. So the theme in this package was Popeye the Sailor, gifting us with a jewelry case boat with Popeye and Olive Oil on board, an Olive & Popeye salt-&-pepper shaker set….and last but not least, Popeye socks!!!  Believe me, Loyal Airmen, the Air Chief has been smiling crazily all afternoon. Thanks Michael & Donna, God bless you both.

LANCE STAR X TWO

  • On 29 Nov | '2024

Greetings Loyal Airmen, we hope all of you enjoyed (or even still enjoying) a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and family. Our day was blessed and we remain eternally grateful to our loving God who looks after us always. Okay, beside eating tons of great food, we did manage to get a new book and and happily some great new artwork. So here we go.

LANCE STAR – COLD SNAP

AIR-309ILLO#2AIR-310

For the first time in the history of Airship 27 Production, we are releasing two books by the author back to back. LANCE STAR – COLD SNAP is a brand new full length Lance Star – Sky Ranger novel by Bobby Nash and take place in the far…far north country. Artist Clayton Murwin contributed the gorgeous black and white interior illustrations (above right) and our own Art Director Rob Davis, that great color cover (above left.) This is a high-flying thrill-a-minute adventure. Whereas “The Adventures of Lance Star” has up to this date only ever been available on Kindle only. It contains all four of Bobby’s previous Lance Star stories. Now both volumes are out in both paperback and on Kindle. As ever, we thank you Loyal Airmen for your continued support.

THE CRIMSON NUN # 2

On the comic book front, artist Jesse Thomas continues his beautiful work on issue # 2 of The Crimson Nun. Having cleared our own commitment desk recently, the Air Chief has begun scripting issue # 2.

BEYOND THE STARS # 5

While on the sci-fi scene, Artist Andrea Bormida and colorist Angelo Vecciarelli are whipping up some stunning pages, ala # 4 and # 5 above in progress. No stopping these guys. Which is a good segues to remind all of you that the….

CROWDFUNDING FOR ISSUE # 4 CONTINUES POORLY

IMG_0788PG(13)

With two weeks into the campaign, we still need to raise $600.  You might have guessed, this isn’t our favorite part of creating comics. We love writing comics. We love working with talented artist like Andrea Bormida and Mike Belcher. What we don’t enjoy is then having to sell them. Honestly, if you simply go to the actual crowdfunding page and see the sample pages on display there, this wonderful issue should sell itself. In a time when Marvel and DC are simply churning out the same old stories, with the same old characters, outfits like Silverline, Antarctic and Redbud are producing new and exciting comics. And still we have to keep beating the drums. Sigh. (https://www.fundmycomic.com/bts1-4)

ALL WE’VE RAISED IS $147 – LOOKS LIKE WE’RE NOT GOING TO MAKE IT THIS TIME.

JIN & TONIK # 2

Meanwhile artist Cesar Feliciano is hot at work on Jin & Tonik #2 and the pencils for these three pages has the Air Chief wound-for-sound. This is the good stuff, Loyal Airmen. Oh yeah.

BEYOND THE STARS # 4 IS HERE!

  • On 22 Nov | '2024

Greetings Loyal Airmen, we’ve got a major announcement to lay on all of you. But before we go to it, let’s look at a few other equally important updates.

JIN & TONIK # 2

462653767_1233461331197272_4569422177278850554_n

Artist/creator, Cesar Feliciano isn’t wasting any time jumping into the second issue of our spy-thriller and above are his pencils for page one. We love Cesar’s art, and it shined on issue # 1. Trust us, Loyal Airmen, you’d seen anything yet.

CHIVALRY INC.

462567389_481890404909855_5719003235562246028_n

Likewise work on the first issue of CHIVALRY, INC. is progressing smoothly with Jesse Hasan’s clean inks over Javier Lugo’s pencils. We’re also thrilled to announce, super colorist, Mickey Clausen, has joined the art team.  Ironically the scene above pictures an imagine Thanksgiving Turkey dinner. Now that’s a really fun coincidence.

BEYOND THE STARS # 4

IMG_0788462562561_1037717994775188_1569369176894351949_n

Alright, now to the big event of this week, the completion of BEYOND THE STARS # 4 and the launching of its funding campaign. Here’s the link (https://www.fundmycomic.com/bts1-4) Simply cut and paste that to your search engine. All of us involved with the book are psyched to have it completed. Above to the left is co-creator Andrea Bormida’s cover, as colored by Angelo Vecciarelli and lettered by Mike Belcher. Note, this cover will be done in silver foil. To the right of it is Rob Davis’ alternate cover. There will be a second by artist Jose Fuentes, which we’ll post here when completed. The funding campaign goes to the 20th of Dec. So if you’d like to give the Air Chief a really nice Christmas gift….Yes, we know. We have no shame. Chuckle. Note, for all you Loyal Airmen who may not have picked up the first three issues of this six part mini-series, issues 1, 2 & 3 are still very much available via the funding campaign. Thanks as ever, Loyal Airmen, for you continued support. We couldn’t do this without you.

TWO FANS IN THE COMIC

PG(2)PG(9)

Way back when we were funding issue # 1 of BEYOND THE STARS, we offered fans the opportunity, with their monetary donation, to appear in a future issue. Two of our fans took us up with that, a young man and young woman. We then proceeded to create characters based on the photos they sent us and now in this issue # 4 they make their appearances. The fellow appears on Pg 2 (upper left) as Fleet Commander Haniel Smada, and the young lady, on Pg 9 (upper right) as Song Seer Anada Dee. We hope they approve and cherish their cameos. We truly appreciated their support.

NOW THAT’S COFFEE!

Coffee

Everyone in our family knows how much we love coffee. The Air Chief has been drinking the dark brew since he was 13 yrs old. When we spotted the above illustration on Facebook a few day ago, we had a good laugh and knew we had to share it with all you Loyal Airmen. If Batman ever gets into the java business, we’re totally going to give his brew a try.

A NEW OFFICE SIGN

BLIMP

And lastly, we wanted to show all you Loyal Airmen the Air Chief’s newest Office Sign. It was a gift from our grand kids here in Colorado, for our birthday a few weeks ago and we love. It was custom made off of Etsy and it puts a big smile on our face every morning when we walk into this room.

And there you have it, Loyal Airmen. Note, the funding campaign for BEYOND THE STARS # 4 is only 25 days long and we need to raise $700 to get the book published. Even if you can’t help money wise, do spread the word to all your comic loving friends and family. For which we’ll be eternally grateful. And with that we end saying….HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ONE AND ALL AND GOD BLESS!!!

SO MUCH FUN

  • On 15 Nov | '2024

Greetings Loyal Airmen, as you all know, last weekend, Valerie and the Air Chief once again we guests at Tim Moret’s Rocky Mountain Con in Denver. We aren’t exactly sure which year this was, maybe 7 or 8, but we’ve been at everyone and they are never a disappointment. We see so many old friends and always get to make new ones. It is a great show and we look forward to it every year.

AT ROCKY MOUNTAIN CON

IMG_0775

Here we were after setting up Friday night. We should mention it snowed all day Friday and the ride down to Denver was a bit hairy. We went down with pals Olivia & Zane DeGaine and Zane is a really good driver.

oIMG_2917

In fact their table was directly across the aisle from ours. Zane and the Air Chief were both thrilled to have him debut the completed cover to our new western series, Hamlet’s End. He’s almost finished the art and our hope is to launch the Kickstarter campaign sometime in January after the holidays. Meanwhile Olivia and the Air Chief should have our series, The Wooden Blade # 3 completed as well.

CCI_000031IMG_0780

We mentioned the fun of making new fans. One such was comics writer Iggy Michniacki who both wrote and lettered his own western comic, Billie. The art is by Zack Rezendes and the colors by Michaela Patton. It’s a terrific comic and per our own Hamlet’s End, it appears westerns may be making a come back. Not a bad thing indeed. If interested in picking up a copy go to (www.project-nerd.com)

IMG_0777

Finally, on the last day of the con, this charming young lady arrived dressed up like a rather well known company icon. Considering the fact that Ronald McDonald arrived when the Air Chief was in grade school, you can easily imagine the grief we endured from our pals in the schoolyard. Of course time heals all wounds and we do laugh about it. Enough to have Valerie snap this pix of the Air Chief and his one time nemesis.

For all you curious Loyal Airmen, of all the books, both comics and prose, available on our table at out show, these above were the top sellers. The memoir title particularly was a pleasant, and humbling surprise. Again, Tim, thanks for much for truly wonderful weekend. Oh, and the sun was shining the day we wrapped it all up.

AIRSHIP 27 PRODUCTION

7Falco & Co-5

We’re happy to announce the release of our latest pulp thriller, “Falco & Company” by writer Wayne Carey. This is a great spy thriller in the vein of the old Mission Impossible TV series. Art Director Rob Davis provided both the cover (above) and the black and white interior illustrations. As always, now available from Amazon in both paperback and on Kindle.

CAPTAIN JAIN MARLEE – Space Smuggler

FIRST-ISSUE

Over the years, the Air Chief has written five comic stories starring the irascible Captain Jain Marlee, a mercenary space smuggler. Now thanks to our pal Rob Davis and his Redbud Studio, her stories have all been collected in this black and white one-shot comic. The artists involved by appearance are Brian Level, Luis Rivera, Richard Jun, Gary Kato & Ariel Aguire. The book is now available for purchase at Amazon. On, and Rob was gracious enough to do that really super-cool cover. We’ve come to love this character over the years and honestly, we doubt we’ve seen the last of her adventures yet.

JIN & TONIK # 2

Artist Cesar Feliciano’s is hard at work on our spy series JIN & TONIK book # 2. Here’s a panel featuring the character Eddie Nightsky, a Navajo shaman.

BEYOND THE STARS # 4

AMLunnamedl

BEYOND THE STARS # 4 is completed save for wrapping up the various covers. Andrea Bormida’s are is fantastic along with Mike Belcher’s super lettering. Expect the Kickstarter to start soon. Stay tuned Loyal Airmen, we’ll certainly keep you posted.

Also, we should note that we actually finished writing the script for book # 4 of THE BOSTON BOMBERS Vol 2. Rob Davis is currently illustrating issue # 3. One more and that’s a wrap for that series. Next up on our writing schedule is the script for THE CRIMSON NUN # 3 and then the script for JIN & TONIK # 3. As you can see, the Air Chief has a full slate of writing chores well into 2025. We are super busy, but it’s way better than the alternative of having nothing to do.

WHILE WE WERE GONE

  • On 8 Nov | '2024

Greetings Loyal Airmen, after an entire week to recoup, we’re back with another full Flight Log for you to digest. Playing catch-up with all the Air Chief’s various projects. But first, we had to share the coolest experience we’ve ever had with all you Loyal Airmen.

I’M FLYING

SIMd6a9f4c54daa139868c36efbe358a521

While in Florida, we visited a military museum in Naples. It is a remarkable place and all of us enjoyed it. But imagine our surprise when we learned they had two Flight Simulators and people could try them out. So Gus, our brother-in-law, and the Air Chief, immediately headed for that room and had the great fun of using them. Each was handled by an experienced pilot. The Air Chief sat down and within minutes was taking off in a small single engine aircraft flying over southwest Florida. What a hoot! And then under the pilot’s guidance, we brought her down in a not overly bouncy landing. Honestly, it was an experience we will always cherish.  Alright, now back to the projects.

THE BOSTON BOMBERS Vol 2

Boston BombersV2-2-CVRBoston Bombers 2-27L

The best news that happened while we were in Florida was that Indy Planet finally put up issue # 2 of our series, The Boston Bombers Vol 2. Rob Davis is doing all the art on this series, to include his dynamite color covers. In writing the script for this issue, we suggested the Cardinal look like the actor Morgan Freeman and as the cover and page above indicate, Rob captured that likeness brilliantly. So, if you’re picking up the series, go to (www.IndyPlanet.com) and pick up a copy. Let us know what you think.

HAMLET’S END

Artist Zane DeGaine continues work on wrapping issue #1 of our new western series. Note, along with the Air Chief, Zane, and his wife Olivia, herself a professional graphic artist, will be guest at this week-end’s annual Rocky Mountain Con promoted and orchestrated by our pal Tim Moret at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Denver. Show runs Sat 9 to Sunday 10th. Zane will have all the original pages of Hamlet’s End on display, plus a roster for con-goers to sign up for information as to when the official Kickstarter will launch in January of 2025. Gonna be a great weekend.

JIN & TONIK # 2

Small TwoSmall One

Hot on the heels of our release of JIN & TONIK #1, artist Cesar Feliciano is busy whipping up issue # 2. Above is the black and white cover and to the right, pg # 1. Matt Webb has signed on to color the cover and we’ll post that version when completed. Can’t wait to share it with all  you Loyal Airmen.

IT’S BIRTHDAY TIME

FYI, I’ve now joined the Tues Night Silverline Comics Podcast. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egi0gr1RMVc) The good people publishing my BEYOND THE STARS series. Check it out.CrepesIMG_0772

Another highlight of the past week was on Nov 5th, while everyone’s attention was focused on our national elections, the Air Chief celebrated his 78th birthday. Oh yeah. And to start the day off right, Valerie made us our favorite food of all, crepes. Mom use to make them for us while growing up and before she passed, she gave Valerie the recipe. Trust me, Loyal Airmen, they tasted as good as they look in this photo above. Then later that night, after we’d gone out and voted, we had a small family party. Lo and behold Val, and our son Alan and his wife Nicole, surprised me with a brand new office chair. A Lazy Boy no less, with a great lumbar support feature. Hot dog, no more aching lower back after hours of writing away. Truly, the Air Chief was once again reminded what a blessed man he is.

And there you go, Loyal Airmen, this was one busy week and we’re always glad you stopped by. Take care and God bless.

Greetings Loyal Airmen, Val and the Air Chief just got home from 10 super fun days in Florida. So being a wee bit tired, we’re just going to post a few Crimson Nun illos from artist David Mowry for now and come back with a regular Flight Log next week. Thanks and God bless,

WHILE IN FLORIDA

  • On 25 Oct | '2024

Greetings Loyal Airmen, as you read this entry, Val and in the Air Chief are still in Florida enjoying a short vacation visiting family. While we are aware, we thought we post a little something for those of you who actually check in here regularly. It’s about a cool idea between three comic amigos.

AMIGOSBlanky

ONE SCRIPT – TWO COMICS

Three comic creators are about to produce a rather unique comic event in drawing two comic books from one script. The concept was born when Antarctic Press publisher, writer/artist Ben Dunn hooked up with writer Ron Fortier at a comic con in Loveland, Colorado. There, Fortier proposed writing a brand new Crimson Nun mini-series based on the character Dunn had created in the late 80s. Dunn liked the idea and gave Fortier the green light to proceed. Fortier then recruited artist Jesse Thomas to draw and color the series with artist Mike Belcher doing the lettering. Issue # 1 premier October.

While Fortier was busy writing that first issue, Dunn suggested they do an issue of his Tomorrow Girl together wherein she would team up with Mr. Jigsaw – Man of a Thousand Parts. Jiggy, as he’s often referred to by fans, was created by Fortier and artist Gary Kato over forty years ago for Charlton Comics. Since then, his adventures have continued in an ongoing series produced by Rob Davis’ Redbud Studio by the same creators. Fortier liked Dunn’s idea and went ahead and wrote a 24 page one shot adventure called “Time Quakes.” During its writing, he started thinking how it might be possible to get Kato involved with the project. Initially his idea was having Dunn draw the comic with Kato doing the cover.

Shorty before sending Dunn the finished script, Fortier had an altogether different and  radical idea. What if he gave the script to both Dunn and Kato to draw? The version Kato would draw would then be published as the next issue in their Redbud Studio series. While the comic Dunn embellished would, as planned, be published by Antarctic Press. In the end there would exist two different comics based on the exact same script. The more Fortier entertained the idea, the more he fancied it. “I’d never heard of anyone ever doing this before,” he said recently. “The thought that fans would be able to purchase both comics then compare them, page for page would be fantastic. They could see where the two artists approaches were similar and at the same time where they were different.”

Most comic readers are aware that each graphic artist has his or her own unique style of drawing. Now they would be able to appreciate that in reality.

Fortier first approached Kato who signed on immediately and is now finishing his comic. Dunn, on the other hand, needed a little more clarification as to who would be doing what. After a few e-mail exchanges, he understood the concept and agreed to join in the fun. He has yet to decide where his comic will appear after he’s finished drawing it. “What all three of us, me, Ben and Gary, have in common,” Fortier concludes, “is our love of comics and keeping the fun in them. That’s why we’re all really excited about this project. We hope our fans will be as well.”

BEN DUNN’S COVER FOR THE TOMORROW GIRL COVER

IT’S VACATION TIME

Greetings Loyal Airmen, before we get into this week’s Flight Log and our hectic activities, we want to let all of you know it’s vacation time for Valerie and the Air Chief.  On Sunday the 20th we are flying off to Florida for our annual visit with Val’s family. Happily our own destination didn’t suffer anything by rains and heavy winds from the last hurricane that slammed into the Sunshine State.  We will be gone for ten days, returning to Colorado on the 30th of October. Just in time for Halloween.  As we indicated in last week’s Flight Log, we are buried under sooooo….many comic projects, never mind our editorial duties for Airship 27 Productions.  Which is why, we are asking all of you we are currently work with on all these projects….DO NOT SEND US ANY ARTWORK OR MANUSCRIPTS UNTIL WE ARE HOME AGAIN.  Please.  We are not taking any PCs or laptops etc. with us.  These ten days in Florida are going to be true R  & R – Rest and Relaxation from the truly hectic year we’ve experienced thus far.  And believe me Loyal Airmen, it’s not going to let up any time soon as is evident by this next time

COMIC PROJECT # 13

AMA2allieStacykendra

Over thirty years ago, the Air Chief, inspired by the old C.C. Beck Captain Marvel comics, had an idea for a comic book series about a young teenage girl who was paralyzed and a diehard comic book fanatic. Her favorite hero was a World War II character called American Amazon. Through a weird series of events, the hallmark of most comic stories, this girl, Kendra, ends up being the new, modern day American Amazon for real. We’re not going to say any more, other than tell you this project has been collecting dust in our files all these years and the only real artwork ever done was the faux-comic-cover above at left by our pal Gary Kato. Okay, so last week, shortly after posting our list of the 12 comic projects we are currently working on, we received a FB message from artist Clint Scott wanting to know if we might have something he could work on with us.  OUCH. We informed Clint of how busy we were and that taking on as yet a 13th project would be insane. Still, no writer every wants to say no to an artist knock on his or her door. We asked Clint to show us sample of his work. We liked what we saw and decided to take the plunge. We sent him that old clunky proposal and awaited his reaction. Well, Clint loved the concept and started doing up sketches from that proposal. Above right are Kendra and two of her friends, a couple of the projects supporting characters and he’s still working on more as we write this. Hopefully on our return from Florida, the Air Chief will find the time (HA) to re-write the entire proposal, it’s way too dated right now, tweak it, shape it into some looking like a decent modern day comic tale and then (BIG SIGH) write a script for Clint to sink his talented chops into.  Loyal Airmen, wish us luck. Lots and lots of Luck.

AIRSHIP 27 PODCAST

PODNUMBER

Yesterday Chief Engineer Rob Davis and the Air Chief recorded the 97th episode of our Airship 27 Podcast. Though we only had a few titles to promote this time around, along with our bad jokes, you might want to go and watch it. The major topic of this episode is how much longer we’ll be keep Airship 27 Production going? We take a hard look at that question a discuss what our plans are going forward and just how many more years we can do this.

And there you have it for this week, Loyal Airmen.  As we sign off, take care and remember, we will return in two weeks. God bless.

Ron – Over & Out!
