Greetings Loyal Airmen, this week we begin with somber news. We were saddened to learn that Jim Shooter had passed away this past Monday, June 29th of cancer. Beginning at the age of 13, when he sold his first story to DC Comics, he was a force to be reckoned with. From that auspicious start, he would go on to become one of the most influential editors and publishers this community has ever had. We met him a few years ago at a small con in Pikesville, Ky and he as a genuinely nice man, fun to talk to and was intrigued by Airship 27 and New Pulp in general. Rest in peace, good sir. He was 73 years young. May the almighty welcome you to eternity. Amen.
MORE JIN & TONIK # 2
Was thrilled to find this in my in-box, another great page from JIN & TONIK #2 by artist Cesar Feliciano as beautifully colored by the amazing Matt Webb. Ironically, it’s a cemetery scene. This issue is moving along nicely. Whereas this past week also revealed another side of our artist amigo; Cesar the author.
RENAISSANCE MAN INDEED
Not only is Cesar content to be a talented visual storyteller, as is evidenced by his past graphic work, but he recently decided to jump into the literary pool and try a hand at novel writing. End result, “Border Run,” which just this past week became available on Amazon. It’s a gritty yarn as described on the page. Here described : “Frankie was born with a Bronx soul and a battlefield heart, Frankie is ripped from the world he knows and thrown into the clutches of the Cuervos cartel—an empire built on blood, shadows, and silence. Tortured, sedated, and reshaped into something unrecognizable, he becomes both prisoner and pawn. But Frankie was never built to break. From the dark alleys of Tijuana to the blistered sands of Baja, Border Run unfolds with relentless grit and lyrical fire. It’s a story of betrayal and redemption, family and faith, where loyalty is tested by ghosts and salvation walks a knife’s edge.” So Loyal Airmen, do yourselves a favor and go on over to Amazon and get a copy. It’ll make for great summer reading.
PRESENTATION ON QUARTERMAIN & CHALLENGER
Recently one of our best Airship 27 writers, Thomas Kent Miller, gave a presentation on the history of H. Rider Haggard’s Allan Quartermain hero and Arthur Conan Doyle’s Prof. George Challenger, at the senior facility in which he resides. Both heroes figure into his new book, “13.5 Billion_Year Detour.” With an audience of thirty five attentive fellow residents, the event was such a success, the home’s Activities Director has asked Thomas to give the talk at other local facilities. Below is the illustrative board he put together for his presentation. Excellent job, Thomas.
ONE BROTHER BONES PANEL PEEK
Although we don’t want to give away too much more on this great new Rob Davis BROTHER BONES strip, we figured one little old panel would suffice to keep you all excited. Oh, yeah.
